The MAINSHEET
    LAKE FOREST GARDEN CLUB
The Lake Forest Garden Club (LFGC) meetings are held on the 3rd Friday of the month, except for December and June when we meet on the 2nd Friday. Meetings are held at The Beach & Tennis Club, 22921 Ridge Route, Lake Forest, CA.
(949) 837-6100. The meetings start at 9:30 am.
The LFGC has been very busy during the last four months of
2022. Committees are active, our monthly meetings have been extremely informative, and continuing members (along with new members) have been contributing to the interest and excitement of our activities for the rest of our 22/23 year. Our club is fortunate to have several Orange County Master Gardeners to share their expertise with fellow members. Several of them have already presented on various gardening topics and issues, with more scheduled during the next few months. Some club members have attended gardening presentations around the county, watched Zoom presentations, and attended a field trip to a farm in San Juan Capistrano which produces vegetable, fruits, and flowers without any harmful chemicals. Our Hospice flower committee prepares Hospice flowers each month for Saddleback Hospital to brighten the days for those who are ill. In addition, our Pre-School Garden Committee has already helped the resident pre-school children plant their vegetables and flowers in their school garden.
We look forward to our Mother’s Day Boutique scheduled for Sat, May 13th. Members are now working on propagation of many types of plants to ensure a variety of plants for sale at the Boutique. In addition, some will be used in preparation of baskets, floral arrangements, succulent containers, and more. Our goal is to have beautiful garden things to purchase for your mothers, grandmothers, aunts, teachers, and friends.
We are a busy group and welcome anyone who loves gardening, or just loves plants, to become a member.
Our Next Meeting: Friday, January 20, 2023:
To start the new
year off right,
we are getting
an early start
on your back-
yard tomato
crop, and are
pleased to
announce the
speaker for
our Jan ’23 meeting will be Dave Freed, aka “The Tomato Guy.” A favorite speaker at the club, Dave is back and ready to lay out his recommendations for the biggest and most bountiful tomato plants ever. Dave spent most of his life in the restaurant business, but when he retired, he discovered plenty of things to do with his time. One of those things was to improve his gardening skills to increase his yields. He got so good at it that he began spreading his personal tomato-growing gospel to garden groups around Southern California.
Where There’s a Garden, There is Hope
WOMEN'S CLUB
Our Christmas gift giving also included donations of $200 each to: Orange County Rescue Mission, South County Outreach, and Isaiah’s House for their Christmas meals; plus $200 each to Teen Project and Fisher House.
We hope you all had enjoyable Holidays with family and
friends. The Sun & Sail Women’s Club had a very busy
December finishing up our Christmas Charities. We filled bags for Christmas gifts for Orange County Rescue
Mission Moms and Vets. Marilyn Hill, who spearheaded this project from beginning to end, is
possible without ALL THE VOLUNTEERS who shopped and
shown in the picture with only some of the gift bags before they were delivered!...but this all was not
  helped fill bags.
  All these
donations were made possible by your support of our events throughout the year, especially the Holiday Boutique. Also thank you to all members who participated in the gift giving
 projects,
We would like to thank all LFII Members who helped fill the South County Outreach food barrel. We are very appreciative of your generosity, as is SCOR, for keeping their
 pantry shelves stocked with goodies.
There is a saying, “All work and no play” - because while
we do work all year putting our events together to make money for our charities, we do also set aside some time in December to relax and celebrate the season. This year we decided to have a White Elephant Gift Exchange and hors d’oeuvres at Bea Foster’s house where we enjoyed the companionship of friends
both new and old that have been developed being a part of The
Sun & Sail Women’s Club. Thank you Bea, for your hospitality.
Our popular and wonderful annual New Year's Eve Party is scheduled for Saturday night, Dec 31st. As this event will be happening after the press deadline for the January issue of The MAINSHEET, we will be updating you on how the party went in the February issue.
The next Women’s Club Meeting is Tuesday, January 17th at the Clubhouse, with a social hour (Including yummy snacks) at 6pm and a short meeting after. Come and join our group of charitable minded women where you can develop new friendships and help other less fortunate at the same time.
May you continue to receive happiness, good times, good cheer, and many joys throughout the New Year.
