EARTH DAY 2023 IN THE WOODS

Saturday, April 22 – 11 am to 1:30 pm

Mark your calendars! We have a great event coming up as we prepare for our 2nd annual EARTH DAY IN THE WOODS.

Earth Day is an internationally recognized annual event celebrated on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environment protection. First held in 1970, Earth Day now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org including the involvement of 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.

EARTH DAY 2022. In collaboration with the global Earth Day Event, last year’s LFII’s Earth Day in the Woods was the first LFII organized such event. It was proposed, planned, and operated by your WRRC along with management and staff. It was organized to shed light on the beauty of this natural LFII asset that is our ‘Woods’ and to promote the mission of the WRRC, which is -“to develop a long-term (20 yrs) plan to ensure the renovation & restoration of the LFII Woods, to include removal of unhealthy trees, creek clean-up & management, planting new trees with diversification of the tree species palette, & creating micro-forests to encourage use & respect of The Woods ecology”- done for the purpose to ensure responsible stewardship of this LFII asset which is on par with the lake and an equal partner in our community name of Lake Forest.

For this 1st Earth Day in the Woods there was the participation of residents, event sponsors and LFII staff to plant over 70 new trees and 250 ground cover plants. All this effort helped to stabilize the hillsides to minimize ongoing erosion issues, to improve the trails and paths of travel, and to enhance the physical and aesthetic qualities of the forests to make it a more attractive environment to be in.

EARTH DAY 2023. This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better. The City of Lake Forest will be partnering with LFII in producing the festivities. Participating sponsors will include EarthCo, Shadetree Nursery, Irvine Ranch Water District, Orange County Bird of Prey Center, and Orange County Vector Control.

Your purchase of this tree to then donate to LFII to be used as part of the Earth Day tree planting program will be greatly appreciated. Details on how to purchase the tree and the cost is available at www.lf2recreation.org – Earth Day 23.

WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!
